In Monthly Meeting of BJP, 3,000 workers cautioned about the adverse impact of FDI in Retail

IF FDI IS ALLOWED IN RETAIL TRADE, INDIA WILL BECOME ONLY A CONSUMER’S MARKET – ARUN JAITLEY

            New Delhi, 6^th December.  If foreign companies are allowed to start their retail trade in India then the economic and social system of India will completely collapse. Here the farmers, youth, women and traders of unorganized sector will be rendered unemployed. 121 crore people of India will become only consumers. The shops will be of foreign companies and goods also from foreign origin and the Indian people will become only consumers and salesmen. Entire profit will be taken out of the country by these foreign companies. The policy of these companies is that first of all capture the market by selling goods at cheap rates in the countries where they start retail trade.

            These views were expressed by the Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Shri Arun Jaitley who was speaking as main speaker before the 3000 senior workers of BJP Delhi Pradesh in the monthly meeting. Pradesh President Shri Vijender Gupta presided over the function. He told that Delhi is the largest trading center in India. The Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit first of all welcomed FDI in retail trade. It shows that the Chief Minister of Delhi wants to ruin about 10 lakhs traders and industrialists of Delhi. Pradesh Office Bearers, Members of the Working Committee, Office Bearers of Morchas and Cells, District Presidents, Mandal Presidents, former Office Bearers, Legislators, Councilors and senior workers participated in the meeting. The agitated workers were raising slogans against the anti people decision of Government “Jo Sarkar FDI Laye, Vo Sarkar Bahar Jaye.” “Khudra Vyapar me Videshi Nivesh, Band Karo, Band Karo.”

 

Shri Jaitley told that the Multi National Companies were eying retail trade in India since decades. When the NDA was in power under the leadership of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, these companies had pressurized the Government for giving permission to start retail trade in India. At that time the Congress was in opposition. The Congress MPs and leaders were raising slogans at that time inside and outside Parliament that “the decision to allow FDI in retail will be anti national decision of the NDA Government.” Now, that Congress Party and Congress Government during UPA rule has opened the doors for foreign companies without taking the country into confidence. The result will be that here the boys and girls will become only sales girls and sales boys in the name of employment. Indian agriculture, unorganized sector and retail trade will be completely ruined.

            He further told that if the objective of Walmart etc. Multi National Companies is the welfare of the country and society then the American Government would have allowed this company to operate in its largest commercial center New York City. It may be mentioned that companies like Walmart have not been allowed to operate retail trade in New York City. Only 18 percent people in the Indian economic system are under organized sector. 30 percent belong to casual labour sector and 51 percent are self employed. This is the largest unorganized sector. Farmers also belong to it to whom no subsidy is paid by the Government. In USA and other European countries, the Governments pay subsidy of 5200 crore rupees everyday to the Farmers so that they may get fair price for their product and sell goods at lower rates.

  

            He told that if the Government encourages foreign investment in infrastructure sector then BJP will welcome. Government has already allowed hundred percent FDI in cold chain storage sector but the Multi National Companies are not interested in the development of infrastructure in India. They are targeting retail trade of 3 lakh crore rupees which will increase to about 8 lakh crore rupees annually in the next 20 years. He told the BJP workers that they should apprise the people of Delhi and country about these facts so that the innocent citizens of the country may know about the destructive decision of the UPA Government about FDI in retail trade and may be able to oppose it in the streets.

            Shri Vijender Gupta announced before the workers in the monthly meeting that on the 17^th and 18^th December BJP will initiate a special signature campaign in entire Delhi against FDI. He told that the UPA Government is in incomplete disarray. The common man does not know that who is running the Government, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi or Manmohan Singh. It is certain that the UPA Government is not being run by Manmohan Singh. The people of Delhi and the country are suffering from corruption, price spiral and anti people decisions. Chief Minister of Delhi Sheila Dikshit is the most obedient Chief Minister of Congress Party. She welcomed FDI in detail although it may ruin the trade and industry of Delhi. On the conclusion of the meeting, the workers and leaders paid emotional tributes to Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the framer of Indian Constitution.

Sheila Dikshit should own the responsibility of corruption in Government and resign

Chief Minister can’t escape from the charges of corruption by reshuffling the Departments under Raj Kumar Chauhan - Vijender Gupta

            New Delhi, 5th December.  Expressing his strong reaction to the recent reshuffle in the Cabinet of Delhi Government, BJP Delhi Pradesh President Shri Vijender Gupta has said that the Chief Minister Smt. Sheila Dikshit can not escape her responsibility of corruption in the Government.  She should order for CBI enquiry into the corruption by Delhi Government so that the reality may come to light.

            Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan is facing serious charges of tax evasion in Tivoli Garden, corruption in CWG, distribution of provisional certificates to fictitious unauthorised colonies, recovering money from the rural areas of Delhi, helping in tax evasion, imposing taxes on the people of Delhi etc.  Only by down seizing his Ministry the purpose will not be served.  If the Chief Minister is impartial and honest then she should remove Raj Kumar Chauhan and order for CBI enquiry into his corruption.  It may be mentioned that the Lokayukta of Delhi had found Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan guilty in Tivoli Garden tax evasion case and had directed that the Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan should resign immediately.  CBI should enquire into his corruption.  The CAG of India had also made such recommendations on the corruption of Delhi Government.

            Shri Gupta told that in the month of February, Chief Minister had taken resignation from all the Ministers because Shunglu Committee and CAG had alleged corruption of crores of rupees.  At that time Smt. Sheila Dikshit had held Dr. A.K. Walia responsible for taking over financial power, PWD and Urban Development Ministry from him and she has given Revenue and Urban Development department to her favourite Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan.  When the case of bungling of thousands of crores in issuing Provisional Certificates to fictitious unauthorised colonies came to light then the Chief Minister did not own responsibility for this scam also.  Now she has shown that her anger against Raj Kumar Chauhan and hence she has handed over PWD to Dr. A.K. Walia again.  Now the Chief Minister has made Dr. Walia a super Minister by giving him, Urban Development department, Health & Family Planning Department, Revenue Department, Irrigation & Flood Department.  Now Minister Raj Kumar Chauhan has only PWD, S.C./S.T. Welfare Department, Employment Department under him.

            Shri Gupta told that by reshuffling the departments corruption will not come to end in Delhi Government.  Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit should own responsibility of all the corruption in Government and should immediately resign on moral grounds and order for enquiry so that the trust of the people may not be shaken in the rule of law.

BJP will oppose every attempt to hike power tariff

DIRECTION OF CHIEF SECRETARY OF DELHI TO INCREASE POWER TARIFF TO THE DERC AND POWER COMPANIES IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL & ANTI-PEOPLE – VIJENDRA GUPTA

Delhi Government with the connivance of DERC has made all the preparations to hike power tariff in the capital to benefit the power companies whereas the Government has no powers, legal or Constitutional to issue directions or orders to an independent body like DERC. One of the power companies of Delhi has refused to pay 195 crores due to the NTPC. On the pretext of this refusal, the Chief Secretary of Delhi P.K. Tripathi has issued directions to power companies to recover 195 crore rupees from the people in the form of hike in power tariff which is injustice with the people of Delhi and a favour to the power companies.

            BJP Delhi Pradesh President Shri Vijender Gupta told the press persons here today that if the power tariff is increased in Delhi due to the directions of Chief Secretary of Delhi then BJP will come in the streets to oppose it. BJP alongwith the people of Delhi will oppose the attempt of increasing power tariff just after 22 percent hike recently. He told that the Supreme Court has cautioned the power companies of Delhi that if they are incurring loss then they should leave the field for other power companies. There are many power generation and distribution companies in India which are ready to supply power at lower rates in the capital.

Shri Gupta told that the Chairman of the DERC P.D. Sudhakar is interested in the profit of the power companies and not in the welfare of the people. He has directed the companies that they can make up their loss by increasing power tariff even four times in a year. Now, the power companies have become free to hike power tariff after every three months in the capital. Even after this the Government with the connivance of power companies wants to impose more burden of power tariff hike on the people of Delhi. Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has stated that the people of Delhi earn much hence, they should not hesitate in paying higher tariff.

            He further told that if the accounts of the power companies are audited by CAG then one can find profit of crores being earned by the power companies. The power distribution companies are earning profit of 6000 crore rupees annually. They are also benefiting by selling power at the rate of Rs.7 per unit to neighboring states. In spite of this by manipulating the accounts, they present deficit budget before the DERC and the Government and provide them opportunity to issue orders in their favour and impose burden of increased tariff on 170 lakh people of Delhi.

Everyday government creates more confusion on FDI-Vijender Gupta

BJP Delhi Pradesh Shri Vijender Gupta laid the foundation stone of primary schools to be constructed at the cost of 10 crores rupees by the MCD in Jahangirpuri’s ward Bhalaswa Jahangirpuri today.  On this occasion he told the people that BJP wants to develop the country and society but the Congress government is pushing the country on the brink of destruction.  Recently the government has decided to allow FDI in retail trade which will render 20 crore traders of the country unemployed.  Inspite of opposition from all the political parties, Prime Minister is not ready to withdraw this decision.  Government is changing its statement everyday and trying to mislead the people.  Hence BJP Delhi Pradesh has called important meeting of 3,000 senior workers on 6^th December.  In this meeting the senior BJP leaders Shri Arun Jaitely will apprise in detail about the evil consequences of allowing FDI in retail to the workers. After that the workers of BJP Delhi Pradesh will go from door to door in entire Delhi and inform the people about this anti people and anti country decision of government so that the people may be aware about it.

            In the foundation laying programme the Chairman of Standing Committee Yogender Chandolia, Councillor Ramkishan Banshiwal, Mandal President Inder Singh and other office bearers, traders and prominent persons from social organization were present.  Hundreds of parents and local citizens participated on this occasion with great zeal.  About 5,000 children will be able to get education in these schools.

            Addressing the people present on the occasion, Shri Gupta told that the people should stand against the decision of the government to allow FDI in retail.  BJP wants that 170 lakh citizens of Delhi should fully oppose this decision so that the government may be compelled to withdraw this decision.  He further told that if this decision is not withdrawn then the country will again become slave of foreign countries and they will fully exploit 121 crore people of India.  

            On this occasion Shri Yogender Chandolia told that MCD wants to make the children of Delhi fully literate.  Hence after coming to power in MCD the BJP decided to open Primary Schools in the areas in which there were no Primary School or were in bad shape. In D Block Jahangirpuri the Primary School will be constructed at the cost of 5.51 crore rupees and it will have 32 rooms.  Similarly in EE Block of Jahangirpuri the cost of Primary School will be 4.28 crore rupees and it will have 20 rooms.  After the construction of these two schools children of thousands of families of these areas may be able to get free and modern education.  If the children will get education then Delhi will also progress.  The area councilor Ram Kishan Banshiwal expressed his gratitude to the guests presents and the people and told that they have hononred us by attending the programme in large numbers.  

The case of FDI in Retail

Shri Arun Jaitly will address 3,000 BJP workers in monthly meeting on the 6th December on FDI in Retail

BJP Delhi Pradesh has called an important monthly meeting of 3,000 workers of the Party at Pradesh Headquarters on the 6th December for apprising the workers about the harms to the country from the decision to allow FDI in retail.  Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Shri Arun Jaitly will be the Chief Guest in this meeting.  He will apprise the workers about the details of the anti people, anti-traders and anti country decision so that they may visit door to door and make the people aware against the decision of the Government in entire Delhi.

            Giving this information, BJP Delhi Pradesh President Shri Vijender Gupta told that the Central Congress Government is not ready to withdraw its anti people decision whereas the Opposition parties including BJP are openly opposing FDI in retail within Parliament and also outside it.  The attitude of the Congress Government is rigid.  Due to this the Parliament is paralysed.  Government is not concerned about the interests of 20 crore traders, 30 crore farmers and crores of industrialists.  This is the reason why BJP has decided to start public awareness in entire country so that the people may be requested to take steps against the Government and the country may be saved.

            Shri Gupta told that the BJP Delhi Pradesh has called an important meeting of 3,000 BJP workers for informing them on this subject and apprise them about the consequences of FDI in retail trade.  The tips given by Shri Jaitly in this meeting will be very helpful to the BJP workers in its public awareness programme.  BJP Delhi Pradesh has taken the responsibility for creating awareness in entire Delhi so that a wave against the FDI in retail may be created and the people of the country may come openly against the Congress Government. 

            He further told that from the hasty way in which the Government took the decision for FDI in retail, it seems that there is an element of corruption in this decision.  If the foreign companies start business in retail trade in India then the entire traditional trade & industry will collapse.  Crores of people will be rendered unemployed by this single decision of this Government.  There will be sufferings in the entire country.  Knowing every thing why the Congress Government took such decision, is the question all the opposition parties and the people are asking Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, but he is not giving any satisfactory answer. 

Delhi Jal Board plans to recover many times higher water bills by installing new meters in 2.5 lakh houses

Delhi Jal Board is going to install 2.5 lakh new water meters in 14 residential colonies and commercial establishments with the help of private companies for recovering many times higher bill.  By doing so the DJB is trying to take one more step in the direction of privatisation of water supply in the capital.  For this purpose DJB has framed a new project of 47 crores on the advise of Chief Minister.  Due to the installation of new fast running meters the water tariff will increase by 3 to 10 times.  BJP has alleged heavy corruption by the Delhi Government in this project.

            BJP Delhi Pradesh President Shri Vijender Gupta has said that the Chief Minister is bent upon privatising water supply in Delhi like the power.  In order to prevent protest from the people she has planned to divide the privatisation of water in many phases.  In the first phase the work of water treatment and water distribution has been assigned to private companies in the areas like Malviya Nagar, Vasant Vihar, Nangloi etc.  Now the work on the second project is being done in a secret way by the Government.

            Under this plan 2.5 lakh consumers of the 14 posh colonies like Malviya Nagar, Vasant Kunj, Greater Kailash, Friends Colony, Civil Lines, Paschim Vihar, Safdarjung, Ashok Vihar, Rajouri Garden etc. have been targeted.  Government and the DJB have also found an excuse for it.  DJB has to say that the consumption of water in the aforesaid areas is maximum in Delhi.  But revenue is minimum.  Defective meters are not working or they have been deliberately made defective.  This is the reason why the people of these colonies use water maximum and do not pay appropriate bill.

            According to the Government and DJB, a big scheme to increase the revenue of about 47 crores has been prepared.  Entire work has been assigned to Larsen and Tubro Company.  The employees of these companies will recover Rs. 400 for changing each meter from the consumers.  In the first phase meters in 1.2 lakh residential houses and 1.3 lakh commercial establishments will be changed.

            Shri Gupta has said that DJB has completely failed to supply water to the people of Delhi.  The water supplied by the DJB is also contaminated. Due to this thousands of people are hospitalised every year.  DJB supplies water only to 60% areas of Delhi.  40% areas have to make arrangements from private sources or from the markets. 

            Out of the water supplied by DJB 40% water is sold in the black market with the connivance of DJB.  Now the Government wants to get out of the work of water supply.  Due to this the private companies are being given this work gradually.  He told that if the water supply is privatised then it will become difficult for the people to get drinking water.

30,000 BJP workers take part in Delhi Bandh and burn effigies of Government at 20 prominent places

Decision to allow FDI in retail trade not withdrawn, Government will have to go-Venkaiah Naidu

Protesting against the decision of the Government to allow FDI in retail trade in India more than 30,000 BJP workers of Delhi persuaded the traders to close all the prominent markets of the capital and supported the unprecedented Bharat Bandh of the traders.  The agitated workers burnt effigies of Central Government and Delhi Government at 20 prominent places of Delhi.  Addressing a big public meeting of BJP workers and traders of Karol Bagh, Pradesh Incharge Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu said that if the Congress Government does not withdraw its decision to allow FDI in retail then this anti people and anti traders Government will have to go.  BJP can not see the traders of India being ruined.

            In Karol Bagh addressing to traders and workers Shri Venkaiah Naidu told that in the New York city of America the Government has not permitted the Wall Mart to open their retail show rooms.  What is the justification in allowing the foreign companies to start their business in India in so much haste.  Prime Minister and Finance Minister are under the pressure of USA and due to this reason they are not thinking about the retail traders of the country.  Government has allowed the foreign companies to start their business in retail trade under foreign pressure which will have dangerous consequences.  It will result in massive unemployment and lakhs of people will come on the streets.  Centuries old economic system of the company will be disturbed India will be under the control of multi national companies indirectly.  The Congress Government did not take into confidence, its own partymen and allies before taking such important decision.  Hence many Congressmen and there own allies are opposing this decision.

            He further told that the BJP ruled States like Chhatisgarh, Gujrat, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Bihar have decided not to implement this decision.  Pradesh President Shri Vijender Gupta addressed the BJP workers in Karol Bagh, Uttam Nagar, Jantar Mantar etc. places.  National General Secretary Shri Vijay Goel was also present in the public meeting at Karol Bagh.  In Uttam Nagar after burning the effigy of Government, the workers sat on dharna on the road for hours with the cooperation of people.

            Addressing the BJP workers assembled at Jantar Mantar, Uttam Nagar and Karol Bagh, Shri Vijender Gupta told that due to the anti people decision of the Government to allow FDI in retail trade, there will be great upheaval in the economic system of India.  No area of the trade, industry and business will remain unaffected.  Foreign companies will destroy the traditional Indian trading system.  The business houses and retail traders doing their business in the Mohallas and lanes will be rendered unemployed.  There will be monopoly of the foreign companies on the economic system and trade/industry of the country.  India will be under the control of foreign countries once again.  It will have far-reaching evil consequences.  This is not a well considered decision of the Government which has been taken when the Parliament is in session and in haste.  There is still time for the Government to withdraw the decision to allow FDI in retail trade in view of the protest all over the country.

            Shri Gupta told that multi national companies like Wallmart, Karphoo, Metro Tesko have been eying the retail trade of India since long.  The reason is that at present the total retail trade in India is of about 30 lakh crores annually and in the next 20 years, it will go upto 80 to 90 lakh crores.  This way the companies will be earning so much profit only in India that will be more than its earning in 20 other countries of the world.  61% of retail trade in India is in food grains, pulses, fruits, vegetables, milk, tea, egg, coffee, spices, mutton, chicken etc.  This business is being run in India under unorganised sector.

            According to Government survey each consumer gets his supply of consumer goods within average distance of 200 to 280 meters from his house at reasonable rate.  When the foreign companies will enter into retail sector of our country then they will finish these small traders and for the purpose of establishing their monopolies they will sell goods at cheaper rates for two to three years even by incurring loss which will not adversely affect them.  After finishing the retail trade in the country they will sell goods at arbitrary rates and the consumers will have no choice, but to purchase from them.
