Lokayuta report again shows Congress is running government of crooks: Goel

Delhi BJP demands action against CM on Lokayukta indictment.

New Delhi, May 8 : The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party President Shri Vijay Goel today urged the President of India to take strong and immediate action on the report of Delhi Lokayukta which indicts the Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and PWD Minister Rajkuamar Chauhan for misusing their official positions to squander away public funds by printing their photographs on loan application forms under the 'Dilli Swarojgar Yojna'.

The BJP legislators and corporators in Delhi would go to the President to press for the action against the Delhi CM and her cabinet colleague.

The Delhi BJP President has already written a letter to the President demanding stringent action on this report.

Shri Goel said, “Out of Delhi government’s 178 departments, 58 departments have spent around Rs 100 crore over the misleading advertising and public relation campaigns over the last three years in gross violation of all norms. It effectively means that overall not less than Rs 300 crore of exchequer’s money has been misused by the government during this time period.”

“This is not the first time that this government has been indicted by the Lokayukta for its corrupt practices. But this government has brazenly carried on with its loot of the resources through blatant use of official machinery and their positions,” Shri Goel said.

“The Congress government has been insulting the institution of Lokayukta by not paying any heed to its report. It is unfortunate that even the President of India and the Lieutenant Governor has also ignored the repeated recommendations of Lokayukta which called for stringent action against the Chief Minister and removal of minister Raj kumar Chauhan from the cabinet,” he added.

These attempts to undermine the authority of Lokayukta stem from the fact that this government wants to quell any attempt to check corruption and misuse of official machinery in the government.

It may be recalled that recently the Delhi Lokayukta had recommended to President of India to issue an advisory to the Chief Minister and the PWD Rajkumar Chauhan, asking them to desist from printing their photographs on loan application forms under the 'Dilli Swarojgar Yojna'. According to the Lokayukta publication of their pictures amounted to misuse of government machinery for electoral purposes.

The forms with the pictures were issued in August 2012 for the issuance of loans by the Delhi SC/ST and OBC finance corporation.

Shri Goel said, “It is deplorable that scheme which was launched in the name of youths from the SC, ST, OBC and minority communities has been misused by the government to serve the vested interests. This is a true reflection of the lack of governance from which the capital of the country is suffering.”

Earlier also the Lokauytka had strongly indicted the CM for misleading the public , especially the poor, before 2008 assembly polls by saying that 60,000 flats were ready for handing over despite knowing well that the same were not ready, in order to "obtain gain or favour to herself or her political party." But the recommendations of Lokayukta were ignored and no action was taken so Delhi residents continue to suffer at her hands.

The Lokayukta had earlier also objected in another similar case where the pictures of CM were pasted on the ration cards. Again, no action was taken.

In another case the Lokayukta had recommended removal of the PWD minister Raj Kumar Chauhan for misusing his position to protect a specific resort from tax evasion. But the minister not only continued in his post but has been indicted again by the Lokayukta.

“This government is mired in corruption, misuse of public funds and brazen violation of all norms to benefit a select few and that too on the cost of taxpayers money.,” Shri Goel said.

“The people of Delhi feel cheated by this government of crooks. By defeating them convincingly in the recently held MCD by poll, the common people have expressed their ire and frustration over the corrupt rule of this insensitive government,” Shri Goel said.
