BJP has said that the decision to recover upto 7% fuel surcharge from the power consumers for the months of May, June & July by the DERC is an arbitrary decision and demanded Delhi Government DERC and the Central Electricity Authority that until the CAG of India does not complete audit of the accounts of three power companies of Delhi, they should neither be allowed to increase power tariff nor recover fuel surcharge.
BJP Delhi Pradesh President Shri Vijender Gupta & Leader of the Opposition in Delhi Legislative Assembly Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra have in a joint statement said that the DERC should work in the interest of the people. This Regulatory Authority had been constituted for this purpose. It has been seen that the DERC is working in the favour of the power companies since its formation. It is not listening to the people. The DERC had a meeting with the power consumers and RWAs for discussing in increase in power tariff and imposing fuel surcharge etc.
All the consumers including BJP observed silent demonstration in the DERC office to protest against the DERC which is working in favour of power companies. Even after this the DERC took one sided decision and allowed the power companies to recover fuel surcharge which is an anti-people decision. Under this decision the power companies have been allowed to recover fuel surcharge every third month. The companies recovered fuel surcharge at the rate of 7% in February, March & April 2012. Now they have been allowed to recover additional fuel surcharge from 4 to 7 percent.
In the quarters of the month of August, September, October and November, December, January 2013, the DERC will give permission to again recover increased fuel surcharge to the companies. This way the power companies shall increase power tariff by 28% in the name of fuel surcharge in one year. The companies shall loot the consumers by both hands because they have demanded Delhi Government and the DERC to recover increased power tariff upto 70%. The Chief Minister gave bail out package of 500 crore rupees to the power companies even after strong protest by the people. The companies are cheating the consumers in various ways. The fast reading electronic meters installed by them have already increased the power bills by two to three times. Is it justified to recover fuel surcharge even after this?
