If water is privatized the social structure of Delhi will be destroyed-Vijender Gupta
New Delhi, 29th January. BJP Delhi Pradesh President Shri Vijender Gupta has said that Delhi Government should accept the advice of former Chief Justice Rajender Sachchar and prominent hydrologists of the country and should stop the process of privatization of water in the capital. If water supply is privatized then 50% of the population shall crave for drops of water. The social structure of Delhi will be destroyed.
Pradesh President told that water is a natural resource. According to the constitution of India the person having ownership of land has also the rights for ground water under the land. Hence banning ground water penalizing hand pumps is against the constitution. Delhi and Central Congress Governments have banned drawing ground water in violation of the constitution. It may be mentioned here that 40% of the people of Delhi are not provided drinking water by the Government. These people depend on private sources for the supplying of water. First of all the Government should supply water to entire Delhi which is its constitutional, legal, social and moral responsibility.
He further told that BJP has been opposing the privatization of water in the capital from the very beginning. At the time of privatization of power in 2002 the Sheila Dikshit Government had made many promises to the people of Delhi. She had claimed that with the privatization of power, the power tariff will come down and the quality of power supply will improve to world standard. The people of the capital are suffering the evil consequences of privatization of power in the form of 4 to 6 times higher power tariff.
If water is privatized on the lines of power then the water tariff will increase immensely and will be beyond the reach of common man. The defamed water companies of foreign countries are eyeing the water resource of India. These companies want to capture the water resource and sell bottled water to the people. The conditions in India are not such that if water is privatized on the lines of power then water tariff will not touch the sky. The common man and the poor people shall not get drinking water.
The foreign water supply companies want to capture the water resource and supply water at exorbitant rates. The social conditions in India are not such that the public water supply taps should be banned. The Chief Minister of Delhi is insisting upon privatization of water. This Government has started the work of privatization in three areas of the capital – Nangloi, Malviya Nagar & Vasant Kunj. Sheila Government intends to privatize water supply in entire Delhi gradually.
