Slab system be abolished from electricity bills : increased tariff should be withdrawn – Vijender Gupta

Alleging connivance between Delhi Government & DERC, BJP Delhi Pradesh President Shri Vijender Gupta has demanded that the slab system should be abolished from the electricity bills. Power tariff should be recovered at flat rate without having regard to the quantity of consumption.

He told that BJP will not tolerate the loot of the people of Delhi through electricity bills and till the slab system is rolled back, BJP will continue its movement. Today the DERC had fixed hearing on the increased tariff of Rs. 5.72 per unit from is 4.80 per unit for the slab of 201 to 400 units. The representatives of RWAs assembled at the office of the Chairman and members of DERC and showed black flags to them and alleged connivance with Delhi Government. This hearing was deferred by the DERC today.

Shri Gupta further told that the DERC was constituted to listen to the demands and complaints of the people and after considering them find out a solution. But the behaviour of DERC is not impartial. It is fully under the grip of Delhi Government and DERC and not listening to the people. Today all the newspapers and television channels have openly said that the hearing today is only an ostentation. The DERC will decide in the favour of power companies and Delhi Government and will not abolish the Rs. 5.70 slab.

BJP President told that the former DERC Chairman Brijender Singh had on 3rd May, 2011 communicated his decision to the Delhi Government with proof that the power companies had recovered additional amount of Rs. 5100 from the people and hence the power tariff should be reduced by 23%. Contrary to it Delhi Government wrote a letter to the DERC on the 4th May, 2011 that the power tariff should not be decreased in Delhi. Due to this the decision of DERC to reduce power tariff by 23% could not be implemented and the people continued to be looted.

Just after the retirement of Brijender Singh, PD. Sudhakar was appointed as the Chairman of DERC and the power tariff was hiked by 23% w.e.f. August 2011. In February this year 5% surcharge was also imposed. The power tariff was further increased from 34 to 75 percent w.e.f. 1st July. The companies were also allowed to fix slab system cleverly, due to which the power bills of Rs. 1500 changed into power bills of Rs. 4000 to 5000. Even consumers of Jhuggis are being served arbitrary bills of Rs. 5000 to Rs. 15000. Those people who are unable to pay the bills are being disconnected supply which is totally inhuman.
