- Concerned Minister on foreign tour, no meeting of the Board for the last 3 years
- Relief for Uttarakhand to be sent by Delhi BJP
- Poor conditions at relief camps indicate adhocism in disaster management : Goel
New Delhi, June 20: In a two pronged relief initiative, the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party today started relief work for hundreds of people in Delhi affected by the rising level of water; the party has also set up “Uttarakhand Relief material” centre to gather and send relief material for people affected by floods and landslides in various parts of Uttarakhand.
Earlier during the day Delhi BJP President Shri Vijay Goel visited the relief camps where hundreds of people living in low lying areas near river Yamuna have been shifted. It is surprising that the concerned Minister in on foreign tour and the Flood Control Board has not met for the last tree years “The BJP workers have been deployed at all the camps and in other affected areas and they are working round the clock to provide relief material to the affected people. The BJP workers are distributing food, water, medicines, clothes and other basic items,” Shri Goel said.
He also expressed concern at the poor arrangements made by Delhi government for people who had to be evacuated over the last two days from low lying areas and yamuna’s river bed. “There is no dearth of funds for Delhi government yet we can see adhocism in Delhi government’s disaster management. I wish the Delhi government could be more sensitive to people who have lost their everything overnight.”
“The BJP workers would work in these relief camps as well as other areas where Yamuna water has entered and I am personally monitoring the party’s relief operations to ensure that in the time of crisis, the party should stand by and provide much required help to the common people affected by floods and poor management of Delhi government,” he added.
Shri Goel informed that in view of the devastation in Uttarakhand, the party has decided to send relief material to Uttarakhand. The first few trucks containing clothes, medicines and other required material would roll out over the next couple of days from the party’s office.
The Delhi BJP has set up a “Relief material centre” at the state BJP office at Pandit Pant Marg. Not only the BJP workers, the party has invited all those who want to give some relief material to help people in Uttarakhand to come and donate the same at the Delhi BJP’s office.
Shri Goel appealed to Delhi’ites to come forward and contribute in form of clothes, medicines or any other relief material for thousands affected by this natural calamity in Uttarakhand. “Delhi always remains on the forefront to provide help whenever any natural calamity happens in any part of the country. I am sure this time also, all of us will do whatever we can do to help our brothers and sisters in Uttarakhand facing one of the gravest natural calamities in the recent past."
Pradesh President was accompanied by Mayor Shri Ram Narayan Dubey, MLA Shri Mohan Singh Bisht, Shri Sanjay Surjan, Shri B.B. Tyagi, Ch. Mahak Singh, Shri Ajay Mahwar, Councillors and District Office bearers in this visit.
