Goel made a strong plea for including full statehood for Delhi in political resolution

Winds blowing in BJP’s favour for Delhi assembly polls: Goel

Goa, June 9: The political resolution accepted by the BJP national executive today also included the support for “full statehood for Delhi,” even as the Delhi BJP President, Shri Vijay Goel, presented a strong case for granting full statehood for the Capital prior to the resolution. He said Delhi’s growth is restricted in absence of full statehood and Congress has done nothing during the last 14 years on this issue.

The political resolution that was moved by Shri Nitin Gadkari and seconded by BJP chief ministers Shri Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Shri Manohar Parrikar thus, clearly spelled out BJP’s support for “Full statehood for Delhi”, in addition to party’s stand on crucial issues like inflation, corruption and anti-people policies of UPA government.

“Full statehood to Delhi would bring greater accountability, more resources and less confusion over administrative issues. Unfortunately, the Congress government in Delhi has deliberately ignored this basic need of the city,” said Shri Goel.

“The Congress government led by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit did not make any effort to implement full statehood for Delhi.

In fact the BJP led NDA government at Centre had brought a bill the parliament in 2003 to grant full statehood for Delhi, but the Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit opposed it. The BJP, after coming to power, will ensure full statehood to Delhi,” said Shri Goel.

“The Congress government in Delhi has brushed under the carpet fundamental issues like full statehood for Delhi and instead indulged in massive corruption at all levels for the last 14 years. It is time for this anti-people and corrupt government to go and the writing on the wall is clear,” said Shri Goel.

Earlier, he Delhi BJP President also presented a detailed report at the national executive regarding party’s poll preparation and prospects in Delhi during the session where party leadership took stock of poll preparations for states where assembly polls are due in next few months.

Shri Goel apprised the party leadership of a swell in the ground level support for the party in Delhi due to a number of initiatives over the last few months such as- a luncheon for 16000 dalits, registration of 20,000 youngsters for social media campaigns, “Grameen Akrosh” rallies in rural parts of the city, distribution of more than 20,000 admission information booklets for students seeking admission in DU colleges and a full-fledged campaign to connect with youth during admission process, rallies and protest marches across the city on issues like power, water and corruption and holding of Janata Adalats by BJP councillors across the city. “We have been able to connect with all sections of society, especially the marginalized sections, through our initiatives,” said Shri Goel.

The Delhi BJP President made a convincing presentation about BJP being in a winning position for coming assembly polls. Shri Goel informed that the BJP has recently routed Congress on two MCD seats for which by-elections were held. Earlier, the BJP had won a thumping majority in civic polls last year. “The victory in by-polls and the response of common people to BJP’s call for calling the bluff of Congress government is gaining ground every day.

The party has already started implementing its poll strategy right upto the polling booth level. The BJP workers are geared up to do away with Congress rule and they have effectively exposed the Congress government over power, water, corruption, inflation and several other issues.”
