More than 300 School principals support BJP’s demand for relaxation of cut off marks for students from Delhi Schools

  • Principals sign memorandum, seeking more opportunities for students from Delhi schools
  • BJP will implement “Admission for All” policy for students passing out Class XII from Delhi schools

New Delhi, 30 June. More than 300 principals of private unaided schools in Delhi have supported the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party's demand to provide relaxation in cut off marks in Delhi University for students passing out class XII examinations from Delhi schools. The BJP has demanded that students passing out from Delhi schools should be provided 2 to 4 per cent relaxation in cut off marks in Delhi University colleges.

The school principals which met, in the presence of Delhi BJP President Shri Vijay Goel, on Friday in Constitution Club to discuss the challenges faced by students passing out class XII examinations from their schools have also signed a memorandum to this effect. Shri Goel will lead a delegation of the school principals from unaided schools to meet the Vice Chancellor of Delhi University to hand over the memorandum and discuss the challenges faced by Delhi students in getting admission to Delhi University colleges.

The meeting was held under the banner of Delhi State Public School Management Association led by Shri R.C. Jain, Action Committee for private Unaided Schools of Delhi led by Shri S.K, Bhattacharjee and Federation of Public Schools led by Shri R.P. Malik.

While addressing the meeting Delhi BJP President Shri Vijay Goel expressed his solidarity with the concern of the principals over the increasing number of students passing out from Delhi schools not being able to admission in Delhi University Colleges. He said that being a former DUSU President and Executive Councillor and having been part of various bodies associated with the Delhi University over the last four decades he understands the challenges faced by students and that is why he is pushing for an overhaul of the admission system in the DU to provide relief to students passing from Delhi schools.

Supporting the Delhi BJP’s demand for providing 2 to 4 per cent relaxation in marks to students from Delhi schools for admission in DU colleges, the representatives of the schools said students passing out from Delhi schools should be given some preference in admission by providing relaxation in cut off marks.

More than 300 school principals also signed a memorandum which will be handed over to the vice-chancellor. The memorandum seeks relaxation in cut off marks for students passing out from Delhi schools and increase in number of undergraduate seats by starting evening classes in morning colleges and opening up of new colleges.

Shri Goel assured the representatives from unaided schools that "Holistic reforms in state of higher education” is on top of BJP’s agenda and the party has already taken up this issue with the authorities concerned.” When we will come to power in Delhi, our target will be to ensure “Admission for All” Delhi students in regular colleges. It is the duty of the government to create enough opportunities for the youth.

However, unfortunately the Congress government has overlooked this crucial aspect over the last 15 years and the biggest evidence of this neglect is that the Delhi government has not opened a new college in the DU over the last 15 years,” said Shri Goel.

“We have already taken up many of the demands made in the memorandum and we would continue to push for these reforms,” he added.

The representatives appreciated the efforts made by Shri Goel to raise this issue as the lack of opportunities for students passing out from Delhi schools has started affecting moral of not only the students and parents but also academic and non- academic staff in these schools.

The principals said, “When our students are not able to get admission in regular colleges and courses of their own choice, this also proves to be a dampener for our teachers and all academic and non-academic staff in schools who really put in lot of hard work to prepare the students to go for colleges and courses of their choice so that they can make feel us proud.”

The representatives were of the opinion that there is an acute shortage of undergraduate seats in Delhi University. Out of 54000 seats available for undergraduates, only half are available in general category. More than 50 per cent of these seats are going to students from other states.

That effectively means only around 8000 under graduate seats in general category are available for Delhi students. If you compare it with the number of students passing out class XII from Delhi Schools i.e. around 2 lakh, this gap looks very glaring.

“The brunt of this situation is being borne by our youth. They are increasingly becoming more distressed for not being able to pursue their dreams of studying in DU colleges,” said these representatives.

It may be recalled that recently the Delhi BJP had released its report on “Status of Higher Education in Delhi” as a part of Delhi Declaration 2013.

“It is a positive sign that our efforts have initiated a debate among various stakeholders who are coming out openly to voice their concerns on the way students and parents from Delhi are suffering. It is time to show some strong political will to resolve this problem and BJP surely has it.

In the past we have demonstrated our strong will by setting up Directorate of Higher Education in 1997 in Delhi during BJP’s rule. All Delhi government colleges in the DU have been set up during BJP’s rule. Congress has ruled this city for last 15 years and not even a single new college has been opened in DU by the Delhi government during Congress rule. ”

BJP demands apology from CM for insulting Delhi citizens

  • DJB's poor water management is responsible for Delhi's water woes
  • CM should stop shifting blame for collapse of public utility services in Delhi : Goel

New Delhi, June 29. The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party today slammed Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for misleading the people of Delhi by saying Delhi does not have water for all its residents. The party also criticised the Chief Minister for making insensitive comments at a function on Friday where she said, No one should complain about water in Delhi as no one has died of thirst here so far. The party demanded that the CM should apologize to residents of Delhi and retract her statement.

Delhi BJP President Shri Vijay Goel said, "The Chief Minister is misleading common people by trying to shift blame of poor water supply on lack of water supply from other states. The fact is that at least 40 per cent of the water is getting wasted due to poor water management in the city. We only need to plug this leakage and there will be sufficient water for Delhi. But the DJB headed by none other than the CM herself has failed to do this during last 15 years of Congress rule in the city."

While the water tariff has been shot up by 1000 per cent during the last 15 years, the water supply to common households have been reduced and the quality of water has gone down. The result is that people are dying in the city due to contaminated water and no one is held accountable for it by the government. There are at least 80 to 100 such specific spots where sewage is seeping into drinking water supply. But nothing has been done about this putting millions of city residents under grave risk.

"As head of the DJB, Sheila Dikshit is directly responsible for such incidents. But instead of fixing accountability here is a CM who is humiliating people by saying no one has died of thirst in Delhi. So no one should protest.

In wake of recent deaths due to contaminated water at the NCERT colony, such an insensitive statement is shocking and shows the congress government's apathy towards problems of common people."

The BJP would like to reiterate that all that is required to ensure regular supply of quality water is professional management of Delhi Jal Board and the water supply system in the city. But as the CM has failed to do so hence she is trying to abdicate her responsibility by trying to shift blame on others.

Shri Goel said, the CM has admitted in a DJB function recently that 40 per cent of the city does not have sewage system. We would like to ask who is to be blamed for this ? Laying sewage system is task of DJB and it has not done it. So the CM needs to answer where has all the money gone which was allocated to DJB? What has it done during the last 15 years if almost half of the city which is capital of India is living without sewage system?

Shri Goel said, the way CM has been treating issues related to the common people such as power, water, sewage, transport and education with great disdain is appalling. The arrogance is reflected in the insensitive statements and off the cuff remarks made by her time and again.

On Friday also she made many insensitive remarks such as "You should be ready to pay more if you are using air conditioners." She has said in the past on inflated power tariffs, "stop using air cooler, use only one bulb and fan if you cannot afford electricity bills."

The Delhi BJP warned the CM that it should stop making fun of the common residents of Delhi and focus on proper management of public utility services instead of shifting blame on others.

Three persons die and more than 50 fall ill after drinking polluted DJB water

New Delhi, June 25. After drinking polluted water supplied by Delhi Jal Board three people of the NCERT Colony at Aurovindo Marg died and more than 50 persons were hospitalized in Safdarjung, Rockland and Moti Hospital in South Delhi today.

BJP Delhi Pradesh President Shri Vijay Goel met the family members of the people living in the flats of NCERT colony today. He found that about 4 persons in each house have fallen ill seriously. When three persons have died and more than 50 persons were hospitalized, then the DJB started changing water stored in the water tanks.

Shri Goel and former Mayor Smt. Arti Mehra met the Director of NCERT Shri Praveen Sinkler and the residents of the colony. He said that the Director himself admitted that a complaint was received about polluted water supplied in the colony about one and a half month ago and after that the water tanks were cleaned. The residents said that they have been getting polluted water continuously for the last one and a half month due to which they have fallen ill. Some of the families are suffering from Diarrhea and Cholera. The Director complained to the MCD and DJB on the 24th June only after the death in the colony. In response to the letter of complaint the MCD Health Department officials went there and found that the water is polluted and the tanks should be cleaned.

Shri Goel and Ms. Aarti Mehra have demanded that this is a case of criminal negligence. The Chief Minister Smt. Sheila Dikshit is also the Chairperson of DJB and hence directly accountable for it and the Director of NCERT along with the officers of CPWD cannot escape from their responsibility. Today the Director has written a letter to the CMO of CGHS that a Medical Officer should be appointed in NCERT colony. Why they kept sleeping over the matter so long?

Shri Goel said that people have not fallen ill on a single day rather were suffering due to polluted water for the last few days. He further said that the sale of mineral water is increasing in entire Delhi because the water supplied by DJB is not worth drinking.

Ms. Arti Mehra told that even after repeated complaints either the Director did not listen or the complaint was not forwarded to the DJB. The people living in this area are the employees of NCERT, hence they cannot raise their voice against the Director. But the Director has admitted that the water supplied by the DJB is polluted.

Delhi BJP sets up agenda for higher education under “Delhi Declaration 2013”

  •  Delhi BJP’s report on higher education proposes relaxation in cut off marks for Delhi students
  •  Extend reach of prestigious DU colleges to other states, better hostel facilities for students outside Delhi
  • BJP will ensure affordable and world class education for all Delhi students in the city: Goel
New Delhi, 24th June, 2013. The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party today released special report on “State of Higher Education” in Delhi as a part of “Delhi Declaration 2013.” The report explains the deteriorating state of affairs in the field of higher education and enlists the corrective steps proposed to be taken by the BJP when it comes to power in Delhi.

After releasing the report, the Delhi BJP President Shri Vijay Goel outlined the key features of the Delhi BJP’s agenda for “Higher Education in Delhi.” “We suggest a provision of a 2 to 4 per cent relaxation in cut off marks in admission to undergraduate courses in Delhi University for all the students passing out class XII from any of the Delhi schools. This would be applicable to all the students passing out from Delhi schools whether their families are domiciles of Delhi or not. This can be implemented immediately in atleast Delhi government’s colleges in DU.”

“The objective of this proposed measure is to provide relief to lakhs of parents in Delhi whose wards do not get admission in DU and are forced to go to other states to study often paying exorbitant fees in private colleges and staying in unsafe conditions in private accommodations.”

The report also suggests providing more hostel accommodations for students coming from outside Delhi in DU as a large number of them are being compelled to stay in unsafe private accommodations paying high rents.

The report also suggests that to reduce the pressure of students applying from other states in DU, prestigious institutions like SRCC, St. Stephens College, LSR College, Hindu College and many other such colleges can open their branches in neighboring states. This would allow many students from other states to study in these prestigious institutions in their own states. It will reduce the number of applicants in DU from other states and hence provide more opportunities to Delhi students to study in their own city.

With around 2 lakh students passing out their class XII examinations from Delhi every year, the opportunities for affordable higher education for students in the Capital have come under severe strain as the number of seats offered for various undergraduate courses have remained stagnant for many years owing to lack of any initiative on the part of Congress government in Delhi.

There are 54000 undergrduate seats in DU. With the Delhi government not opening any new college over the last 15 years and over a lakh students applying from other states, the Delhi students are hardly able to get even 50 per cent of the seats in DU.

One of the immediate steps that would be initiated by the BJP when it comes to power in Delhi is to start evening classes in all the morning colleges in DU.

Shri Goel said, “The BJP also has plans to open a new online university in Delhi as online education is one of the fastest and most convenient ways of getting higher education world over. In addition we propose to link higher education with skill development to make education employment oriented. The BJP plans to bring prestigious institutions like Harvard Univeristy and LSE to Delhi. With such globally acknowledged institutions setting up campuses here, Delhi students won’t have to go abroad to study and they can get benefitted by world class education in the city itself at affordable prices.”

Delhi has the potential of becoming a world class affordable hub for education. The BJP had set up the Directorate of Higher Education in 1997 when it was in power. It also set up the Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University which is catering to thousands of students. However, the Congress government failed to capitalise on this momentum and completely neglected the field of higher education. This is evident from the fact that the option of getting admission in a good college and a studying a course of one’s choice is not available to most of the students in Delhi.

The Delhi BJP leadership strongly believes that a strong political will, right intention and innovative solutions are required to set the things right. But the current Congress government lacks all three. Fourteen and a half years is a long time for any government to deliver and Congress government has failed miserably in this regard.

“Higher Education” is one of the top priorities for the BJP. In a unique initiative, the party had launched admission helpline for DU applicants in first week of June. It also distributed more than 25000 admission information booklets free of cots to students and their parents for DU admission through student help centers set up by its youth wing across the city over the last four weeks. More than 10,000 students have been helped by BJP’s DU admission helpline so far. The helpline, which was started on 5 June, will continue till 30 June.

Delhi BJP Presents “Muslim for Development” agenda at historic Muslim convention

  • BJP will address real issues like education and employment concerning Muslims: Goel
  • Congress rule resulted in marginalisation of Muslims: Naqvi
  • Congress government in Delhi betrayed Muslims with empty promises: Rasheed

New Delhi, June 23. The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party today unveiled a progressive agenda for development of Muslims in the city at a well attended “Muslim Convention” at Talkatora Stadium. The theme of the convention was “Muslims for Development”. It was organised by Delhi BJP’s Minority Morcha.

Addressing the convention, Delhi BJP President Shri Vijay Goel said, “The Congress governments have duped Mulsims in the past by running nefarious campaigns against BJP and raising the bogey of secularism while keeping the Muslims backward. The BJP believes that Muslims must have an equal share in the development process and it can only be done by addressing the real issues concerning Muslim population in the city. “

“Our slogan is “Daraar nahin, Pyar”( “No Rift, Only love”),” said Shri Goel

“ The BJP’s agenda for Muslims in Delhi include upgrading education facilities for them, greater employment opportunities through skill development, training and credit facilities, adequate share in Housing schemes meant for EWS, overhauling of infrastructure in areas with minority concentration and professional management of Wakf Board, Delhi Haj Committee, Urdu Academy and Minority Development Financial Corporation,” he added.

“Urdu needs to be introduced as an optional subject in Delhi government and NDMC schools and all vacant posts of Urdu teachers must be filled up. The Congress government has done nothing to bring any significant change in socio-economic conditions of Muslims. The result is that they have been left far behind in Delhi. The areas with minority concentration are in horrible condition with complete collapse of infrastructure,” said Sh. Goel.

“The BJP will open polytechniques and well equipped schools in areas with concentration of minorities. It will also ensure planned development in these areas. It seems Congress has deliberately turned such areas into ghettos. It is time to stop treating Muslims as “Vote banks”. They must get their due and be equal partner in all growth endeavours in the city,” he added.

Addressing the convention, BJP’s national vice-president, Sh. Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, “ The so called proponents of secularism have ensured that today half of the Muslim population is living below poverty line. Whether it is education, safety or prosperity, Muslims remain a neglected lot.”

“To garner votes, Congress and so called secular parties create a phobia on the issue of communalism or propogate misconceptions about BJP. This resulted in the development issues which are really important being neglected.”

“The BJP believes in development of Muslims and we will soon come out with a Vision document that address various issues concerning Muslims,” he added.

The BJP Minority Morcha President Sh. Atif Rasheed said, “This is a historic convention in the city and the large number of Muslims gathered here show that Muslims cannot be taken for a ride. They will go with a party like any other citizen which is concerned about their development.”

“During the last 15 years, the Muslims have suffered on all fronts during Congress rule in Delhi. Right from school education to wakf board, there is not a single issue which has been addressed. There have only been empty promises and rhetoric from Congress leaders. Muslims are not ready to get betrayed any more. They find a greater connectivity with the BJP as it is concerned about their development and is presenting a progressive agenda for the Muslims in the city.”

Delhi BJP dispatched two trucks carrying relief material to Uttarakhand.

New Delhi, June 22: The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party today dispatched two trucks carrying relief material to Uttarakhand. The trucks were flagged off by Delhi BJP President Shri Vijay Goel at Delhi Pradesh BJP's office at Pandit Pant Marg.

Shri Goel said, "The need of the hour is to help thousands of those who have lost their friends family members, houses and all that they had. There are thousands who are stranded in Uttarakhand in adverse circumstances. The Delhi BJP will be sending more relief material in days to come."

After flagging of the trucks carrying relief material, the Delhi BJP President expressed his gratitude to Indian Defence Forces for doing commendable job of rescuing thousands and running the rescue and relief operation in such challenging circumstances.

Shri Goel informed, "The Delhi BJP has set up an Uttarakhand Relelief Centre at its office. I appeal not only to the BJP workers but to all Delhi residents to come forward and provide help for those who are stranded in Uttarakhand." If any body needs help, he may contact at BJP Delhi Helpline number : 011-23712323, 23712744 and 23712509.

Centre’s decision to pass on coal import cost on consumers deplorable, will hike power tariff by 10 to 15 per cent: Goel

Delhi BJP demands no additional burden should be put on consumers

New Delhi, June 22: The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party today slammed the Congress for further fuelling a hike in already skyrocketing power tariff in Delhi. The party warned that any such move will not be accepted by the BJP. The party demanded that the additional costs of coal import should not be passed on to consumers in the form of another power tariff hike.

Reacting to a proposal cleared by Congress led UPA government which would allow the power generators to pass on the hike in power tariff to common people raising the electricity rates by atleast 10-15 per cent, the Delhi BJP President Shri Vijay Goel said, “The Congress government in Delhi and its leaders at the Centre are hand in glove when it comes to raising power tariff. If that is not the case, why didn’t the Delhi government oppose this move by the Union Finance Ministry. After all the finance minister is a senior member of the Congress party.”

Shri Goel said, “The latest move by the Congress led UPA government which is evidently backed by Delhi government is actually the outcome of the Coal scam. The coal production within the country has taken a back seat as the Congress ministers were too busy in doling out favours.”

The fall in domestic coal production has resulted in power generation companies seeking imports of coal and now this additional cost is being passed on to the consumers for no fault of theirs. It is the corruption, inefficiency and mismanagement of the government of the day at Centre which resulted in this situation.

Shri Goel said, “In Delhi, Congress government has been hand in glove with DISCOMS and at the centre the Congress led government is hand in glove with power generation companies and the coal import lobby. Ironically, the common man is being ignored. Delhi residents are witness to this sad saga of neglect and corruption as over the last couple of years, the power tariff has almost doubled.”

The Delhi BJP is of firm belief that if resources are managed properly then power tariffs can be actually brought down. In Delhi, the party has promised to bring down the power tariff by 30 per cent.

“Though we have a ten point formula which we are ready to share with the Chief Minister if she calls an all party meeting to reduce the power tariff, even if she implements some basic steps which we have shared with her, the power tariffs will come down immediately,” he added.

To begin with, the Chief Minister should immediately allow more companies to come in every circle and let there be competition among various DISCOMS. Simultaneously, the CAG should be asked to audit the accounts of these companies as their accounts have not been audited. It is for sure that the auditing would expose the way Delhi residents have been taken for ride by the unholy nexus of DISCOMS, DERC and Congress government in Delhi.

Shri Goel said, the BJP will soon be launching a city wide agitation on the issue of power tariff hikes in Delhi. The party will hold a historic rally at Ramlila Maidan in the month of August where lakhs of Delhi residents will gather to express their anger towards the apathy, corruption and inefficiency of the Congress government for its absolutely disastrous performance on all fronts and to express solidarity with BJP’s alternative model. The BJP is committed to bring down the power tariff by 30 per cent when it comes to power. Unlike, Congress government, we have the right intentions and strong political will to do this."

Delhi BJP to hold “Muslims for Development” convention on 23 June

  • Muslims need better education, more employment, Congress has given them out rhetoric: Goel

  • Low literacy, poor employment opportunities during Congress rule mar Muslims’ socio-economic development in Delhi
NEW DELHI, JUNE 21, 2013: Buoyed by the success of its recent convention for youth and public rallies for villages and unauthorised colonies, the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party will now be holding a convention for Muslims in Delhi on 23 June at Talkatora stadium. This is first time in recent past that the Delhi BJP will be holding a mass convention of Muslims in the city.

The convention titled “Muslim for Development” is being organised by Delhi BJP’s Minority Morcha to focus on the issues related to socio-economic development for Muslim populace in the city. The BJP’s agenda for the convention is to discuss and present a specific programme on providing better education and employment opportunities for the community. The party will be presenting a positive action plan in the convention for the community.

The programme is a part of the BJP strategy to focus on specific target groups which have been neglected completely over the last 14 years by the current Congress government in Delhi.

Delhi BJP President Shri Vijay Goel said, “Muslims in the city constitute atleast 12 per cent of the population. As a community, they have been facing a number of hurdles when it comes to their socio-economic development. The literacy rate among Muslims is much below than the average literacy rate of the city. The employment opportunities are also few and for between for them as the education they are getting is not linked with skill development. The BJP feels that tt is time to go for course correction and focus on these issues if we really want to ensure welfare of the community.”

“Our aim is to break stereotype image of Muslim community, propagated by Congress which has treated them as “vote banks” while forgetting all about them after elections are over.

This convention is aimed at setting up a “development” agenda for the Muslims contrary to the rhetoric of false promises propagated by Congress. Muslims are fed up of hollow promises and like any other community they are seeking socio-economic development and improvement in the quality of their life through better education and more employment opportunities. That is the most important issue for them and the BJP will address it,” he added.

Shri Goel said that during the BJP led NDA regime, a number of steps were taken for welfare of the Muslims including an ambitious programme of modernising Madrasa education and special programmes for generating employment opportunities for the Muslim. On the other hand, the Congress led UPA government has failed to spend 95 per cent of the money kept for specifically identified districts where Muslims have adverse socio-economic indicators.

The situation in Delhi is no different. Delhi BJP’s Minority Morcha President Shri Atif Rasheed said, “The Muslims in the city have been left in the lurch by Congress. Today their literacy rate is much less than the average literacy of city. The drop out rates of boys and girls from Muslim community from schools are very high. The infrastructure and availability of teachers in schools in areas having large Muslim population is dismal. There are no specific programmes available for employment and skill development of Muslim youth on the ground.”

“The Muslims have been taken for a ride by Congress in the past but now it stands exposed as 15 yeas is a long time to deliver. The Congress government in Delhi has failed to bring any significant improvement on either education or employment front. The Muslims are looking forward to get associated with a party which has a specific development agenda for them and hence they can connect more closely to BJP,” he added.

The convention will be addressed by senior BJP leaders including former BJP President Shri Nitin Gadkari and senior BJP leaders including Shri Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Shri Shahnawaz Hussain.

Delhi BJP starts relief operation for flood affected people in Delhi

  •  Concerned Minister on foreign tour, no meeting of the Board for the last 3 years
  •  Relief for Uttarakhand to be sent by Delhi BJP
  •  Poor conditions at relief camps indicate adhocism in disaster management : Goel
New Delhi, June 20: In a two pronged relief initiative, the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party today started relief work for hundreds of people in Delhi affected by the rising level of water; the party has also set up “Uttarakhand Relief material” centre to gather and send relief material for people affected by floods and landslides in various parts of Uttarakhand.

Earlier during the day Delhi BJP President Shri Vijay Goel visited the relief camps where hundreds of people living in low lying areas near river Yamuna have been shifted. It is surprising that the concerned Minister in on foreign tour and the Flood Control Board has not met for the last tree years “The BJP workers have been deployed at all the camps and in other affected areas and they are working round the clock to provide relief material to the affected people. The BJP workers are distributing food, water, medicines, clothes and other basic items,” Shri Goel said.
He also expressed concern at the poor arrangements made by Delhi government for people who had to be evacuated over the last two days from low lying areas and yamuna’s river bed. “There is no dearth of funds for Delhi government yet we can see adhocism in Delhi government’s disaster management. I wish the Delhi government could be more sensitive to people who have lost their everything overnight.”

“The BJP workers would work in these relief camps as well as other areas where Yamuna water has entered and I am personally monitoring the party’s relief operations to ensure that in the time of crisis, the party should stand by and provide much required help to the common people affected by floods and poor management of Delhi government,” he added.

Shri Goel informed that in view of the devastation in Uttarakhand, the party has decided to send relief material to Uttarakhand. The first few trucks containing clothes, medicines and other required material would roll out over the next couple of days from the party’s office.

The Delhi BJP has set up a “Relief material centre” at the state BJP office at Pandit Pant Marg. Not only the BJP workers, the party has invited all those who want to give some relief material to help people in Uttarakhand to come and donate the same at the Delhi BJP’s office.

Shri Goel appealed to Delhi’ites to come forward and contribute in form of clothes, medicines or any other relief material for thousands affected by this natural calamity in Uttarakhand. “Delhi always remains on the forefront to provide help whenever any natural calamity happens in any part of the country. I am sure this time also, all of us will do whatever we can do to help our brothers and sisters in Uttarakhand facing one of the gravest natural calamities in the recent past."

Pradesh President was accompanied by Mayor Shri Ram Narayan Dubey, MLA Shri Mohan Singh Bisht, Shri Sanjay Surjan, Shri B.B. Tyagi, Ch. Mahak Singh, Shri Ajay Mahwar, Councillors and District Office bearers in this visit.

Addressing the meeting, Delhi BJP President Shri Vijay Goel said, “The Delhi BJP is in favour of full statehood as this would end multiplicity of agencies. Unfortunately, the Congress government has done nothing to get full statehood for Delhi.”

The key issues in the assembly polls will be power, water, lack of development in villages, unauthorised colonies, JJ clusters and slums. The Congress is already on defensive as its poor performance is indefensible.”

He further added, “We are making efforts to mobilise party cadres 11,000 polling booths all over the city. We have appointed assembly seat coordinators on all seats and prabharis for all 14 districts. The party is fully geared up now for polls.

During the state executive meeting, there was an interactive session also where its members came up with several suggestions about future strategy of the party to contest assembly polls. A number of them suggested that the party must take up an extensive campaign to highlight its achievements in the MCDs and failures of Delhi government.

Some of the members suggested that the party is getting support from all sections of the society and there was a need to devise mechanism to incorporate aspirations of these sections who want to be closely associated to the BJP.

Some members also raised the issues faced by the industry owners due to lack of development in industrial areas.

Several members said that the people of Delhi are desperately looking for change and with the selection of good candidates and proper mobilisation of party cadres at all levels, the BJP is all set to score a record victory.

Shri Goel assured that the BJP will take up all these issues in its poll campaign and will also offer time bound solutions which will be implemented when it comes to power in Delhi.

A short film was also screened at this meeting which gave glimpses of the various initiatives, protests and issues taken up by the Delhi BJP in recent past.

Youth will spearhead the change in Delhi and country in coming polls: Rajnath Singh

A BJP government in Delhi will open 15 new colleges, provide concessional books laptops for youth: Goel

New Delhi, June 16 The National President of Bharatiya Janata Party, Shri Rajnath Singh today slammed the UPA led Congress government for its complete failure to generate employment for the youth and for being mired in corruption at all levels fuelling price rise and making life of the common man difficult.

Addressing one of the biggest youth rallies held in the recent past in the Capital at Talkatora stadium Shri Singh said, “The BJP led NDA government generated around 7 crore jobs during its tenure whereas the Congress led UPA government has failed to create even a fraction of this during the last nine years.” The “Youth for Change 2013” was organised by Delhi BJYM to highlight issues related to youth.

Shri Singh said that the break-up between BJP and JD(U) was unfortunate. He said, There is no reason that any other political party should object to the appointment of a popular and successful chief minister as head of BJP campaign committee.

Addressing the convention, Delhi BJP President Shri Vijay Goel said, “The youth of the Capital have been completely ignored by the Congress government in Delhi over the last 14 years. Whether it is the shortage of college seats or lack of employment seats, the youth of the city are facing a tough time.”

Shri Goel announced that the BJP will open 15 new colleges when it comes to power so that all students in Delhi can get admission. It will also start evening classes in all the morning colleges to further enhance availability of college seats.

“The BJP will provide laptops and educational books on concessional rates for the students in the city. It will also set up a Youth Commission to formulate specific policies for the youth in the capital and to oversee their implementation. The party will ensure that the education is linked to skill development and the city provides enough employment opportunities to the youth.”

BJYM’s national president Shri Anurag Thakur said, “It is heartening to see that amidst heavy downpour, thousands of youth have turned up for this convention. This shows how youth are finding greater connectivity with the BJP. The youth in Delhi will surely uproot the Congress in coming assembly polls as it has completely neglected them.”

Delhi BJYM President Shri Gaurav Khari said, “The youth in Delhi feel betrayed by the Congress government as it has done nothing for them except making false promises.”

The BJYM also distributed a feedback form for the youth who attended the rally at the venue. The youth were asked about various issues concerning them through this feedback form amongst other things. BJP leaders lambast Congress’ Grameen Vikas Rally, say Congress leaders making misleading and false promised

  • BJP will do in 14 months what Congress couldn’t do in 14 years for villages:Goel
  • No development by Congress outside Lutyen’s zone: Shahnawaz Hussain
New Delhi, June 15th . In a massive rally termed “Palam Panchayat” organised at Palam area today, the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party leaders lambasted Congress leaders including Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for making ‘misleading and false promises’ at a function in Talkator stadium today for the villages of the city which have been completely neglected during last 14 years of Congress rule.

Addressing the “Palam Panchayat”, the Delhi BJP President Shri Vijay Goel said, “Congress’ blatant lies to woo voters stands exposed. In the name of giving relief on Lal Dora, their leaders have said that the application for regularisation of structures constructed in Lal Dora area will be considered only after three months. Everyone knows that after three months, code of conduct for assembly polls will be in place and the Congress government will hide behind the lame excuse of not in a position to do anything. Hence there will be no relief for the residents.”

“In fact what Congress leaders have announced today would hardly cover 20-30 per cent villages whereas the need of the hour is to do long pending ‘chakbandi’(consolidation of land) in all the villages and then extend the Lal Dora. This is the only way to provide real relief to all the villages.”

The Congress has failed to make even a concrete announcement on removal of Section 81 of Delhi Land Reforms Act. In a typical electoral move, the Congress leadership said that officers have been asked not to serve notice under this section for sometime. One of the Congress MPs himself accepted that the number of court cases against farmers which are pending under this draconian section are anywhere from 80,000 to 1.5 lakh. The only way to provide permanent relief to them and other farmers is to do away with Section 81. The Congress has been promising it in its manifestos in the past but has failed to move even an inch on this.

Shri Goel said, the Chief Minister Sheila Dikshist who was touted as the main speaker at Congress function for villagers in Talkator Stadium today is in fact not even aware of the problems about villages. “How many times she has visited villages in Delhi? When you are not even ready to spare few minutes for visiting villages and understanding their problems, how can you think of resolving these problems. That is the reason, the Chief Minister’s speech was devoid of anything substantial for villages” .

Shri Goel said that when the BJP will come to power, it will abolish sections 81,65 and 33 of Delhi Land Reforms Act and frame new regulations which are conducive for farmers of Delhi. The BJP is also committed to implement the 20-point programme which has been dumped by the present Congress government. Under this programme, the BJP will provide ownership rights to land for the vulnerable sections of the society. The party will get Chakbandi done in a timely manner so that the extension of Lal Dora is beneficial for all.

“We will do in 14 months what Congress government has been promising and not delivering in last 14 years ,” said Shri Goel.

He said Congress has got rattled by the way it has been exposed by the BJP consistently. “That is why its leaders are making personal attacks on BJP leadership. But we believe in constructive criticism so that the common people should get benefitted. That is why we have offered to share the formula for reducing power tariff by 30 per cent. If the Chief Minister is willing to implement it, let her call an all party meeting and we will share the formula for power tariff reduction.”

Addressing the rally former union minister and national spokesperson of BJP, Shri Shahnawaz Hussain said, “ On the development issue, the Congress today stands exposed as soon as it comes out of Luteyn’s zone. The villages in Delhi today resemble underdeveloped villages of the extremely backward states. All this has been the result of perpetual neglect of these villages.”

“When BJP was in power, several initiatives including the one related to Lal Dora were taken during late Sahib Singh’s Chief Ministership but Congress did not carry forward the work which was started at that time.”

“In fact Congress has neglected all the marginalised sections of the society as well as minorities. It has been misleading the Muslims by creating a false phobia bout BJP. But it stands exposed today”

“The BJP, when it comes, to power will work to ensure that the benefits of development accrue to all sections of the society. “

To reach out to minorities and to reach every household in Delhi villages, the Delhi BJP is organising a convention of Muslims on 23 June at Talkotara Stadium in Delhi to discuss the issues concerning the Muslims in the city.

The BJP legislator from Palam Shri Dharam Dev Solanki said, “The Congress government has failed to provide any facilities for rural areas in the city. The villages do not have even basic amenities like potable water, regular power supply, sewage, roads, public transport, hospitals and educational institutions. The step-motherly treatment of the Congress government meted out to villages is highly deplorable and people will Congress a befitting reply in coming assembly polls.”

BJP leaders, assembly coordinators meet to discuss issues related to villages and unauthorised colonies

  • Delhi Govt failed to fufill any promise for villages : Goel
  • Congress’ trick of making ‘false promises’ before polls stand exposed : Goel
  • BJP to hold Palam Panchayat on June 15

New Delhi, June 14 In a crucial party meet in run up to preparations for the upcoming assembly polls, the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party today discussed the ‘unfulfilled’ promises made to villages and unauthorised colonies by the Congress government.

Addressing a press conference today, the Delhi BJP President informed that the BJP leaders decided to expose the Congress government for repeatedly making empty promises for the villages and unauthorised colonies.

“The Congress government has been repeating the same promises for the last 14 years talking people for ride and it is trying to play the same trick. The Congress government has lost it credibility,” said Shri Goel

The Congress promised in its manifesto in 2003 that it will abolish the Section 81 of Delhi Land Reforms Act. It also promised that the Lal Dora in villages will be extended. It repeated the same promises in 2008 manifesto. In addition it also promised that concessions will be given on House Tax in villages.

“The Congress government has failed to fulfil even a single promise. Neither Section 81 of Delhi Land Reforms Act have been abolished nor Lal Dora has been extended. While the BJP ruled MCD have cleared the proposal for House Tax concessions for villages, the Congress government has stalled it.,” said Shri Goel.

The Congress government failed to fulfil its promise of increasing land compensation substantially as well as providing employment to one family member of the household whose agricultural land has been acquired in the villages by the government agencies.

In the 2008 Congress Manifesto the Delhi villages were promised 105 schemes at the cost of Rs 427 Crore. No one knows what happened to these promised schemes and money. None of them are visible on the ground.”

For 14 years Congress has done nothing but paid lip service to the cause of Delhi villages and unauthorised colonies. In run up to assembly polls, the Congress is coming up with the same “old set of promises”. It is announcing new schemes even as none of the old schemes have been implemented.

The glaring example of Congress’ real intentions is the way it has dealt with the issues of unauthorised colonies. It has been providing provisional certificates but even the boundaries of most of the colonies are not being defined. The Congress government has failed to come up with a plan for development of basic services and amenities in these colonies. In a haphazard manner, it is making ‘cosmetic announcements.”

On the other hand when the BJP ruled MCDs wanted to start development work in these colonies, the Congress government has not allowed them to do so. The Delhi government is also forcing the RWAs of these colonies to shell out unaffordable amount for clearing layout plans. The BJP is not in favour of putting such burden on the RWAs but the pleas have fallen on deaf years as Delhi government is refusing to budge.

Shri Goel said lack of basic amenities in villages and unauthorised colonies where more than one third of the city population lives is deplorable. The BJP will expose the misdeed of Congress on these issues at “Palam Panchayat”, a mass rally in Palam area onJune 15.

The BJP has also asked its 70 assembly coordinators to go back to all 70 assembly seats and get a feedback about issues concerning all sections of society. These inputs will play a crucial role in formulating party’s poll strategy, said Shri Goel.

The meeting held today was attended by state unit office bearers, 70 assembly coordinators, All India BJP Secretaries Ms. Vani Tripathi and Dr. Anil Jain, former Delhi BJP Presidents Shri Mange Ram Garg and Shri Vijendra Gupta, all ex-Mayors, former minister and senior BJP leader Shri Jagdish Mukhi.

BJP to oppose new ‘gimmick’ of DERC to raise power tariff for domestic consumers

  • BJP to launch massive agitation on power-water situation, state executive to finalise the plan
  • CM abdicating responsibility, BJP committed to 30 per cent reduction in power tariff: Goel

New Delhi, June 13. The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party today criticised the Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit for abdicating its responsibility as the city continues to suffer long and unscheduled power outages. The party also slammed the Delhi government and DERC for trying to impose power tariff hike under the garb of introducing a new slab for domestic consumers.

A section of media has reported that the DERC may introduce a new fourth slab for domestic consumers. This will further increase the burden on domestic consumers which are already suffering from high power tariff in three slabs. This is unacceptable and BJP will strongly oppose any such move.

The people of Delhi are aghast at the fact that here is a chief minister who instead of controlling the DISCOMS free run, throws up her hand in air and says “What can I do?” when people confront her on the issue of power tariff and power outages. ”

“In fact, the Chief Minister is in the habit of abdicating her responsibility by always expressing her helplessness on issues concerning Delhi citizens. Whenever a problem crops up, right from law and order to poor power and water situation, the CM has a signature reply of “What can I do?”

“If she can’t do anything about people’s problems, then she has no right to be the CM.”

Shri Goel said, that the Delhi govt and DERC stand fully exposed by a DERC letter letter dated 31st May, 2013 wherein for the first time DERC has made it public that it has recognized the regulatory asset (losses that will be claimed from the people) of Rs. 3225.29 crores upto 2010-11 for BRPL only, for the year 2011-12 the figures are yet to be finalized. BRPL and its balance sheet has already considered regulatory asset of 5417.75 crores. When DERC had accepted Rs. 827 crores as regulatory asset of BRPL, the rates increased by 15%. If the DERC considers the regulatory assets of Rs. 2398 crores the rates will go up by 45% and in case DERC acknowledges the regulatory asset of 5417.75 crores the rates are bound to be doubled.

“When power distribution was privatized, then Delhi government had made claims of ensuring round the clock power supply at low tariff. But today neither power is available round the clock, nor it is affordable. The Delhi citizens feel cheated by this betrayal from its own government which has formed an unholy nexus with DISCOMS and DERC.”

Shri Goel said, “To give vent to the feelings of common citizens who feel harassed at the hands of DISCOMS and Congress governmet in Delhi, the BJP will soon launch a massive agitation on the issue of deteriorating power and water situation in the Capital.

“We have asked members of our state executive to connect with RWAs and take a feed back from them as well as other common people, civil society, and prominent persons at the ground level regarding deteriorating power situation in the Capital. The members of state executive would be sharing this feedback with party leadership .The party will discuss its poll strategy in light of this feedback on 18 June,” he added.

“Following the state executive meeting, he BJP cadres will mobilise the common citizens in the city in days to come. Through a mass contact programme we would convey to the common people that on one hand you have a Congress government which is hand in glove with DISCOMS and has supported them all out to increase power tariff breaking all norms, on the other hand the BJP is offering a solution by committing to bring down the power tariff by 30 per cent,” said Shri Goel.
