Delhi needs full statehood, Congress hiding its failure through blame game : Goel

BJP councillors bring administration to door steps of people through Janata Adalats
BJP councillors to expose Congress’ false propoganda in Janata Adalats

NEW DELHI, JUNE 1: The Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party President Shri Vijay Goel today demanded that Delhi should be granted full statehood so that Delhi residents do not have to suffer from confusion created by the multiplicity of authorities.

“The BJP, when it comes to power at Delhi and Centre, will grant full statehood to Delhi. It is unfortunate that the Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit has made no effort to get full statehood for the city during the last 15 years which has compounded city residents’ problems multifold. This indicates the ad-hoc approach of this government and lack of vision for the Capital of the country.”

Inaugurating the “Janata Adalat” programme at Keshavpuram along with leader of the house in North MCD Shri Mahender Nagpal in his ward, Shri Goel said, “There are many services like power, water, sewage, secondary and higher education, foodgrains through PDS, health care through hospitals which are supposed to be provided by the Delhi government but it has conveniently tried to create confusion by shifting blame of its failures on all these fronts to the MCDs.

While the Municipal Corporations in Delhi are responsible for sanitation, parks, street lighting, primary education and primary health care, the Delhi government is responsible for proving water, power, sewerage and most of the other services. After failing to perform, the Congress government is now indulging in a ‘blame game’ which is deplorable. This also indicates the “anti-people” attitude of this government which has made even basic services like water and power unaffordable to common people through its poor management. The Delhi BJP is committed to bring down the prices of these services and improve their quality through better management and curbing of corruption and inefficiency.

“It is the common man who has to suffer because of the ‘blame game’ played by Delhi govt. The MCDs have limited powers and even their Commissioners are appointed by the union home ministry. On critical issues like carrying out development in unauthorised colonies, the Delhi government has not honoured its commitments trying to shift the blame on the MCD. The Congress government has tried to financially cripple the MCDs as they are ruled by the BJP.

One of the reasons which allowed Congress government to create this confusion and abdicate its responsibility over crucial issues is the absence of full statehood for Delhi due to which devolution of powers has not happened. The BJP will correct the course when it comes to power. ”

Shri Goel said, “The BJP councillors have received an overwhelming response through the Janata Adalats. They were able to resolve a number of issues related to sanitiation, parks, primary education, primary health care and MCDs’ pensions on the spot with the help of officials. Those issues which cannot be resolved on the spot are going to be redressed in the councillors’ offices on ‘most urgent’ basis.”

The BJP councillors are also informing common people through Janata Adalats, how Congress government in Delhi is shirking from its responsibility and paying only lip service to the cause of the people while trying to shift blame on the MCDs for its own failures.

In addition, the BJP councillors are distributing the Admission Information Booklet through Janata Adalats for the Delhi University which was released earlier this week to help students seeking admissions to the DU and their parents.

Shri Mahender Nagpal said, “It is a unique initiative. While the people are also benefiting from this, the BJP councillors are also able to get a direct feedback about the issues, challenges and expectations of common people. This will help us in formulating better policies and improving mechanisms for implementation of the policies.”

“Janata Adalats are an outcome of BJP’s core philosophy that administration should be brought to the doorsteps of the people. On the basis of the feedback which we receive through this initiative, we would be coming out with many more such initiatives in days to come,” informed Shri Goel.

Under Janata Adalats which started today, all BJP councillors are stitting at designated open public places on every Tuesday and saturday for atleast two hours to resolve the issues of common people on the spot. The schedule for the same is available on Delhi BJP's website- www.bjpdelhi.org
