Power tariff increased in place of being decreased

Govt., DERC cheats the consumers – Vijender Gupta

New Delhi, 22nd Oct. BJP Delhi Pradesh President Shri Vijender Gupta has said that the way in which the DERC has made changes in the slab rates at the request of Delhi Govt. is actually cheating with the people of Delhi. The announcement made by DERC of decreasing power tariff by making changes in the rates of slabs at the instance of Govt., is actually increase in power tariff. BJP strongly condemns this increase in power tariff. The movement of BJP to protest against power tariff hike will continue with full force till increased in power tariff is withdrawn.

Shri Gupta told that previously for the slab of 0 to 200 units consumers had to pay Rs. 3.70 per unit. Now in the new slab rates also the consumers will have to pay Rs. 3.70 for consumption from 0 to 200 units. Previously for consumption from 201 to 400 units, consumers had to pay Rs. 4.80 per unit. Now this rate has been increased to Rs. 5.50 per unit. This way additional burden of 70 paise per unit has been put on the consumers.

Similarly for consumption of more than 400 units, previously the consumers had to pay Rs. 6.40 per unit, now they will have to pay at the rate of Rs. 6.50 per unit. It is worth mentioning that previously fuel surcharge at the rate of 5% was being recovered. Now this has been increased to 8%. In addition electricity tax at the rate of 5% is also being recovered. This increased has also been applied to the fix charge. This is injustice with the consumers of Delhi by the power companies, DERC and the Govt. BJP will continue to oppose it.

Shri Gupta told that in NDMC area the fix charge has been increased to Rs. 10/- per KV per month. This was to be recovered w.e.f. 1st September, 2011, but the NDMC consumers are being forced to pay w.e.f. May 2011. This is injustice with the consumers.
